Tessa

Tessa, aka Tequila, is from the American Quarter Horse line Wyoming Blanton.  She’s got a brand on her hind end to prove it.  She’s a very sweet horse, loves grooming and petting, but she can be a “cranky” mare, as in stubborn and choosing what gait she wants, not what her rider wants!  To date, her California caretaker has gotten two beats of a canter from her, and not by request.  Horse and rider were crossing a shallow, slow running stream, and Tessa decided her dainty hooves didn’t need spending one more unnecessary second in water and quickly threw herself into canter gear—one, two—and away from the water they went, settling into Tess’s ambling walk.

Tess was trained by Poco’s owner/breeder and is a solid trail horse, meant to follow, not lead.  She likes to be safe and trusts Poco’s judgment, more than her own or her rider’s.  Three experienced riders rode Tessa in Colorado, testing her out for her new owner.  Not one got her into a trot, let alone a canter.  No speedster, but she can move beautifully if provoked in the cool mornings by Poco, who sees his duty to get her away from his breakfast. She’s an easy keeper, and good grass hay is what she should have, no alfalfa or grain necessary.
